Windsor Bulldogs 1963 Men’s Ice Hockey Team

The Windsor Bulldogs brought honour to our community in 1963 by becoming the first Windsor Ice Hockey Team to win the Canadian Senior “A” Men’s Hockey Championship – The “Allan Cup”.

Two members of the team are Honoured Members of “The Hall”. Bobby Brown was inducted in 1995 and (captain)Lou Bendo entered the Hall in 1999.

The “Bulldogs” record in the 1963 O.H.A. Senior “A” season was 27 wins; 12 losses and 1 tie.

Their high calibre play regularly saw capacity crowds at the Windsor Arena.

In order to qualify for the Canadian Senior Finals the Windsor Bulldogs accomplished the following: The team defeated Woodstock in the Semi-finals, 4 games to 1. Then they defeated the Chatham Maroons in the Regional Finals, 4 games to 2. In the Ontario Finals, they swept the best of 5 games series by defeating Noranda, in three games straight. Moncton was the opponent in the Eastern Canadian Finals and the Bulldogs won the series, 4 games to 1.

In the 1963 Canadian Finals, the Windsor Bulldogs swept by Winnipeg, 4 games to 1, to capture the “Allan Cup”.
