Colin Daynes is the most accomplished wrestler Windsor and Essex County has ever produced. He competed for Canada at the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta. At the time of his induction, he was the only resident of the Town of Essex to participate in the Olympics.

Daynes was born on May 8, 1974 in Windsor.

Daynes graduated from Essex High School, where he wrestled under coach Bill Hogarth. Daynes captured two all-Ontario titles at the high school level, earning him a place on the wrestling team at Brock University. There, Daynes won a team national championship, plus several gold medals at the provincial and national (CIAU) levels.

While still in University, Daynes finished in fourth place at the Pan-Am Games. He won the 1996 Canadian Olympic Trials, earning himself a place on the team for the Atlanta Games. As the youngest member of the wrestling team, he finished 14th at the Olympics. He was honoured by the Town of Essex, which had never previously sent a local athlete to the Olympics.

In 1998, Daynes captured his fourth consecutive gold medal for the Brock Badgers at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Wrestling Championships. Remarkably, each national title came in a different weight class. The feat was unique in Canadian wrestling history. Daynes eventually finished his collegiate career with five Ontario University Athletics Championship victories and a fifth place finish at the World University Championships, held in Iran.

All in all, Daynes finished his well-decorated career with 62 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals.

At the time of his induction, Daynes was pursuing a career in mixed martial arts.
